RUSSIA DAY IN KOLKATA

On the occasion of the Russia Day the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata hosted a reception at The Park Hotel on June 9, 2017. Mr Saurabh Kumar Das, Additional Chief Secretary, Panchayat & Rural department, Government of West Bengal, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Heads and members of diplomatic missions and cultural centers of Bangladesh, the Great Britain, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, honorary consuls, representatives of the local administrative, political, artistic and academic circles, business community, mass media, Russian compatriots attended the reception.

Addressing the gathering Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata Mr. Alexey Idamkin noted that 2017 is the year of the 70th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and India and underscored the continuity and stability of our time-tested bilateral ties.

The photo exhibition dedicated to the Anniversary was arranged at the venue. Separate stands were related to Gerasim Lebedev, the first Russian indologist, an Indian languages translator and a pioneer of Bengal drama, who founded the first European-style theatre in India in 1795. Another stand was devoted to Boris Lissanevitch, Diaghilev ballet dancer, who established the famous 300 Club in Kolkata in 1938.

The photo exhibition as well as the background music - classical jazz by Oleg Lundstrem - drew positive response from the guests. Dishes and beverages of the Russian cuisine were served.
